Summary
Purpose: This study aimed to assess the safety and feasibility of transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) staging surgery in treating endometrial cancer.
Methods: Clinical data from 96 patients with endometrial cancer were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups based on surgical approach: transumbilical LESS staging surgery group (n=48) and traditional laparoendoscopic staging surgery group (n=48). Surgical indicators, postoperative complications, pain scores, cosmetic satisfaction, and patient outcomes were compared between the two groups.
Results: The LESS group showed shorter operation time, less intraoperative blood loss, fewer dissected lymph nodes, shorter postoperative drainage tube indwelling time, reduced postoperative drainage volume, and shorter postoperative ventilation time compared to the traditional surgery group. Additionally, the LESS group had shorter postoperative hospital stays and higher postoperative cosmetic satisfaction scores. Patients in the LESS group also reported lower visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores during walking at 24 hours post-operation. The 3-year overall survival (OS) rate and progression-free survival (PFS) rate were comparable between the two groups.
Conclusions: Transumbilical LESS staging surgery is deemed safe and feasible for endometrial cancer treatment. It offers advantages such as rapid postoperative recovery, reduced pain, favorable cosmetic outcomes, and shorter hospital stays, suggesting its potential for wider adoption.
